Final preparations for the funeral service of the late AmaXhosa King, Zwelonke Sigcawu got underway on Thursday, 28 November in Nqadu Great Place. South African Government leaders, traditional leaders, officials from the relevant departments and the Sigcawu family worked in harmony to make sure that the King’s final ceremony goes according to plan. The late AmaXhosa King will rest at the royal compound in Nqadu Great Place, Willowvale, Eastern Cape.

President Cyril Ramaphosa honoured the late King Zwelonke by declaring a Special Official Funeral Category 1 for His Majesty. The King’s funeral will feature military ceremonial elements in accordance with the Category 1 status of this occasion.

His Majesty became King of amaXhosa in 2006 and led his people until his passing on Thursday, 14 November 2019. He was also the first King in South Africa to be crowned in 2015 after the democratic recognition of traditional leadership.
President Ramaphosa will to deliver the eulogy at the funeral on Friday, 29 November 2019.
