Department of Small Business Development: Equipment handover

As part of commemorating O.R. Tambo Month, the Department of Small Business Development recognizes the importance of the informal sector in achieving radical economic transformation and it will continue to drive the empowerment of informal businesses as they make a significant impact in reducing poverty, inequality and unemployment in South Africa. Deputy Minister of Small Business Development Ms. Rosemary Capa and the Executive Mayor of O.R. Tambo District Municipality, Cllr. Thokozile Sokanyile, Friday, 16 October 2020 handed over tools and equipment to 91 informal business owners of King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

The handover of business tools and equipment is part of the Informal and Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP), a nationwide trajectory of the Department of Small Business Development which strives to accelerate the growth of informal and micro enterprises by improving their competitiveness and sustainability to become formal businesses in the mainstream economy.

The IMEDP supports Informal and Micro Enterprises by providing them with operational support equipment to the maximum value of R10, 000.00 per beneficiary.
